Chiranjeevi: ‘My dream has come true’

Chennai: “My dream has come true with Sye Raa…. It was my long wish to play a freedom fighter character, but didn’t get a chance. When I came across this subject (Sye Raa..) 12 years ago, we couldn’t do the film due to budget constraints and also technology was not supportive then,” said actor Chiranjeevi at the trailer and audio launch of Sye Raa Narismha Reddy in Chennai recently.

Chiranjeevi later entered politics and stayed away from cinema for nine years. “When I returned to do film Khaidi No 150 (Telugu version of Kaththi), I had little doubt whether people will accept me the same way. But the film ended was a blockbuster and I was sure that my image was intact,” added the Telugu superstar.

“After the success of Khaidi, we decided to do Sye Raa.. because our technology has improved and top of it Baahubali The Beginning gave confidence that we can make a pan-Indian film,” Chiranjeevi said.

“When we decided to do Sye Raa.., we needed a producer who can invest in this project and I looked at Ram Charan to produce the film. He said that he can understand and I will produce it.” Sye Raa is the film about the first freedom fighter of India, Narismha Reddy. “Unfortunately, history was not documented properly and he was a forgotten.”

Chiranjeevi also revealed that Kamal Haasan gave a voice over for few minutes intro and conclusion of the Tamil version of Sye Raa.. and in Malayalam Mohanlal did the part. The movie is directed by Surender Reddy, produced by Konidela Production Company and distributed by R B Choudary via his production company Super Good Films in Tamilnadu. The film has big names like Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Tamannaah Bhatia and Amitabh Bachchan.

Producer Ram Charan said, “When my father was in politics, he said that the day I come back to film industry, I will do a film with Tamannaah. In cinema industry anything is possible that’s the beauty of cinema.”

Speaking about Arvind Swamy, who gave his voice for Tamil version, the producer said, “Arvind sir came to my house and asked me about the film Sye Raa and enquired whether there is any role for him. He asked who is doing the Tamil dubbing and I informed him that everything is done but he was persistent that he would do it. It was completed in just two days.”
