Chennai: IIT Madras students won the first and second prizes in the 49th year inter collegiate quiz competition organised by Lions Club of Central Madras held at Sri V D Swami Auditorium, Sankara Nethralaya recently.
Students from Madras Christian College settled for third prize.
According to a press release, 86 students from 18 colleges registered for the competition and Sumanth C Raman was the quiz master.
After a preliminary round, six teams consisting of two participants were selected for the final rounds.
Dhruv Sriram and Sathvik Anantha Krishnan, of IIT Madras won the first place and Lion C V Ananthasayanan trophy, a silver medal for each and a cash prize of Rs 1,500 each.
L Calvin and G Abirami of IIT Madras won the second place, C V Ananthasayanan trophy, a silver medal for each and a cash prize of Rs 1,000 each.
P K Vishnu and Jacob J Puthenveettil, of Madras Christian College, Chennai won the third place, K Jayaraman trophy, a silver medal for each and a cash prize of Rs 500 each.
Participation certificates were given to all who took part in the contest.
Justice P Venugopal Memorial Trust sponsored the cash prizes this year and one of the trustees Andal Rajaram gave away the cash awards.
Earlier, Lions Club member M C Govindaraj welcomed the gathering.
Lions Club members Nirmala Sampath, G V Raman, K Jayaraman, P K Chandrasekaran are among those present at the event.
