Chennai: The city police have arrested two persons for carrying out a theft at Aminjikarai. The duo were held with Rs 20,000 cash and 25 stolen ATM cards.
According to police, they were identified as Zakir (29) and Afsal (20) from Haryana.
On 2 October at 6.45 pm, the two men withdrew cash from a nationalised bank’s ATM near Perumal Temple in Aminjikarai. The police said while one withdrew cash, the other went behind the ATM machine and switched it off.
This was done so that the an entry will not be done regarding the amount deduction from the account and the card owner will not get an alert.
On seeing the visuals on CCTV, the bank’s branch manager gave an oral complaint to the police. Yesterday, police found the duo roaming near the same ATM kiosk in a suspicious manner and took them into custody.
The stolen ATM cards belonged to family members and friends of the duo. Aminjikarai police have registered a case.
