Chennai: TANKER (Tamilnad Kidney Research) Foundation has handed over four haemodialysis machines to Greater Chennai Corporation Diagnostic Centre, Kodambakkam High Road, Valluvarkottam, recently.
According to a press release, the machines were donated and inaugurated by Sundaresan family and friends and Ashwin Kumar of Dr T N Krishnaswamy & Janaki Ammal Charitable Trust and Rotary Club of Madras East (RCME).
TANKER Foundation managing trustee Latha Kumaraswami gave an update of TANKER and said that so far the organisation has done almost 3 lakh free and subsidised dialysis through their 8 dialysis centres thanks to valuable support from the CMCHIS, Greater Chennai Corporation and various Rotary Clubs and other donors. TANKER has given donations of Rs 2.75 crore for medications and investigation costs. The Corporation TANKER RCME dialysis unit started with 4 machines and expanded to 10 and now has 17 machines, she said.
Rotary Club of Madras East president Gopal said the club was happy to associate with TANKER and the Greater Chennai Corporation for the dialysis unit. They also donated one more dialysis machine and the RO plant on the occasion.
Sundaresan spoke of his chance meeting with the staff of TANKER and that their dedication inspired him to raise Rs 18 lakh through family and friends for three dialysis machines.
