Chennai, Nov 7: The State government today appointed Assistant Inspector General of Registration P V Geetha as special officer to manage the affairs of South India Film Artistes Association aka Nadigar Sangam.
A press release said that she will hold the post untill the adjudication of the election related disputed of the association with the Madras High Court or for a period of one year from 6, November, 2019 subject to the outcome of the cases, whichever is earlier.
A few days ago, the State government has argued that the election conducted by the Nadigar Sangam is invalid since it was not held according to the bye-laws of the film association. Though the elections have taken place, the counting has not taken place due to a stay order.
One of the petitions, filed by actors Benjamin and Ezhumalai, sought the invalidation of the elections since the two members were not allowed to vote. In their petition, they had also alleged irregularities in the postal ballots and had pointed out that the announcement for the elections was issued after the tenure of the office-bearers ended.
