Chennai: The long-pending request of the commuters for the construction of a Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at the Tambaram Sanatorium Railway Station will soon become a reality as the officials have stated that the tender is under process.
The commuters had requested for the FOB as the present subway leaks when it rains making in unfit for usage.
With no pedestrian crossing in the vicinity, people are often caught in a stampede-like situation at the subway during peak hours.
Kamaraj, a resident said flooding is a regular occurrence during every rainy season. ‘For more than a decade now, the subway is getting flooded. Even as the rains stopped, the subway remained submerged making the surface slippery and dangerous to walk. Commuters were forced to wade through knee-deep water,’ he said.
‘The subway was flooded with rainwater during the recent rains. I had to cross the tracks. The thoroughfare leading to the tracks was narrow and slippery,’ said Lakshmi, a commuter.
Recently Sriperumbudur MP T R Baalu wrote a letter to Union Minister Piyush Goyal seeking the construction of a FOB at the location.
