Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will be travelling to New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
Sources said that Palaniswami will be inviting the duo for the inauguration of the Amma Memorial constructed in the memory of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa which is nearing completion now. The memorial is expected to be inaugurated on Jayalalithaa’s birth anniversary on 24 February.
Palaniswami will be travelling to Delhi on 19 December to take part in the meeting organised by Modi to discuss the arrangements made by the State governments to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Modi has invited the Chief Ministers of all the States to take part in the meeting. Palaniswami who will take part in the meeting has sought appointment to meet Modi personally..
Sources said that during the meeting Palaniswami is also expected to thank Modi for granting nine new medical colleges in the State.
Palaniswami is also expected to hand over a memorandum with various other requests including seeking funds for various schemes to be implemented in the State.
The present political scenario in the State is also expected to be discussed during the meeting. The meeting is also significant, as it takes place at a time when the civic polls have been announced in the State after a gap of more than three years.
Following his meeting with Modi, Palaniswami is also expected to meet Amit Shah and a few other Union Ministers. Palaniswami last met Modi in Delhi in June during which he handed over a memorandum on various development projects to the Prime Minister.
He was in the capital city to take part in the Governing Council meet of NITI Aayog. During his stay, Palaniswami also met Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Water Resources Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and discussed State projects related to the respective Ministries. Mekedatu dam issue was among the subjects that came up for discussion.
