Assistant professor ends life in classroom at Arumbakkam

Chennai: In a shocking incident, the body of a woman assistant professor was found in the classroom of a city college in Arumbakkam this morning.

According to the police, the victim was identified as Harishanthi (32), daughter of Subramanian Ellaiyappan. She is a native of Thiruvallur and was employed in the Telugu department of the college one-and-a-half- years ago. She left the college after she got a job as a Telugu teacher in a Government school.

Harishanthi, police said often visited the college and is also a PhD holder. She had come to the college last evening and this morning the college sweepers found her hanging from a fan using a dupatta in one of the classrooms of Telugu department in the main block.

The police arrived at the spot along with a team of forensic science experts. Sources said they found a wound on her left hand, which appeared like a knife injury. It is not known is it was a suicide or a murder.

There was no suicide note at the spot. Arumbakkam police have registered a case.
