Chennai: The CB-CID is conducting inquiries with a middleman and two officials of Tamilnadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) in connection with the answer sheet tampering case in the recently held Group IV exam.
Police said the middleman was identified as Sivaraj and he was arrested last night. So far 13 arrests have been made in the case out of which three are TNPSC staff.
Meanwhile, a team of CB-CID also questioned the wife and family members of prime accused Jayakumar at his residence in Mugappair. Police are yet to find out his whereabouts.
It may be noted that the TNPSC banned 99 candidates for life from the Group IV exam after it found they had manipulated the answers by using a special ink. These 99 candidates from across the State had written the exam at Rameswaram and Keelakarai centres as per the instructions from brokers.
Investigations revealed that Thiruvuraj (46), a shepherd who ranked first in the Group IV exam held last year had manipulated his answer sheet.
A native of Sivagangai, he had attempted the exam seven times in the past. Many expressed shock when he came first in his eighth attempt at the age of 46.
A team of CB-CID camped in Sivagangai for two days as part of the inquiry. Police said that many of those who cleared the exam found it difficult to write in Tamil or English.
H Omkanthan, a Record Clerk of the TNPSC, continues to be under police inquiry for allegedly taking bribe and helping main accused Jayakumar with the crime. He allowed Jayakumar to take the 99 scripts and change the answers while they were being transported to the city.
The CB-CID is investigating if more government staff is involved in the scam.
