VIT Chennai gears up for Vibrance 2020

Chennai: Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) Chennai will host its 5th edition of Vibrance 2020 between 6 and 8 February. VIT vice-president Sekar Viswanathan launched the Vibrance 2020 T-Shirt at a press meet held here Monday.

The three days event is a national level cultural and sports festival of VIT Chennai titled ”Engage, Enthral and Entertain”. The event will draw over 10,000 students, including those from Indian Institute of Technology – Madras & Guwahati and National Institute of Technology-Tiruchi.

VIT Vice Chancellor Anand A Samuel said over 20 outdoor and indoor games such as tennis, hockey, football, basketball, cricket, volleyball, throwball, chess, marathon, cyclathon among others are to be conducted by the students of VIT.

Marathon event themed, ”Save water, save life” will be held – 10 km for men and 5 km for women. Multi cultural events like malaang, Juwarbandi’s Dancepacito (students from 20 colleges will participate in this event), stage play dramatics, battle of bands and IPL battle will be organised by the students of VIT Chennai, he said.

A costume design event will also be a part of the show, which will be judged by actor Vivek Oberoi on the fourth day of the event, he added.

The highlight of the three-day cultural event is the professional shows. Music composer Devi Shri Prasad, singer Mohit Chauhan and Shraey Khanna’s international dance team will take part in the event.

The three days event will also include performances by DJ’s – Joshi and Rink. The total prize money to be given to winners of various events is more than Rs 5 lakh. Actor Vivek Oberoi will be the chief guest at the valedictory event.

New courses
VIT vice-president Sekar Viswanathan said the university will launch 5-year integrated programmes in B Tech – Artificial Intelligence & Robotics, Mechatronics and Automation, Computer Science and Computer Vision from the coming academic year.

New specialisations in MSc includes Data Science, Physics and Chemistry. After completion of the integrated course students can pursue PhD in VIT, he said.

The institute will be launching two new academic courses from 2020 June / July. The intake which will be on part time basis. It includes M Tech – Mechatronics and Power Electronics, Sekar said.
