Chennai: At a time when the DMK and its president MK Stalin have embarked on a signature campaign across Tamilnadu against CAA, actor Rajinikanth today said, ”CAA is not a threat to Muslims. A panic is being spread against them by a few political parties”.
Addressing mediapersons at his Poes Garden residence here, Rajinikanth, said, ”I will be the first person to protest if the interests of Muslims living in India are affected.”
He said, ”CAA is not against those Muslims living in the country. This has got to do with only those in the four nations bordering India. A false propaganda is being spread against CAA.”
He had a word of advice for students who are on protest against CAA. ”Check all the facts before you take part in a protest. Take the advice of your parents, elders and professors. Make sure your future is not affected in case a FIR is filed against you. There are chances that some politicians may use you for their personal gains”.
Alleging that some political parties were instigating people against CAA for their selfish interests, he also blamed religious leaders for supporting protests against the law and dubbed it very wrong.
The actor further stated that NRC is very important for every country to record the number of immigrants from other countries. He said some are spreading false news and rumours about CAA to divide the people. He said the Sri Lankan refugees in Tamilnadu should be granted dual citizenship.
The actor’s controversial comments over Thoothukudi firing grabbed headlines in 2018. In this regard, Rajinikanth was recently summoned by Aruna Jagadeesan commission to depose on 25 February. Asked about this, the actor stated that he did not receive any summon yet and would respond to it after getting it.
Asked about tax evasion, he said, ”I am a honest tax payer and everyone knows that too”.
