Chennai: The Crime Branch CID (CB-CID) this morning took a man from Washermenpet into custody in connection with the Tamilnadu Public Service Commission examination scams.
The man, who is yet to be identified, is said to be an associate of one of the main accused Omkanthan, a Record Clerk in the TNPSC. He was taken to the Egmore office of CB-CID for further investigation this morning.
Meanwhile, sources said that the seven-day CB-CID custody of prime accused Jayakumar ends Friday. Due to this, the investigating team has intensified the interrogation and is speeding up the inquiry process.
Currently, over 40 people have been arrested in the TNPSC examination scams. The CB-CID is investigating the alleged large scale malpractice taken place in TNPSC examinations, including the 2019 Group IV exam, 2017 Group 2A exam and the 2016 VAO test.
The main accused Jayakumar of Mugappair, is said to have taken Rs 5.83 crore from various candidates who wanted to clear the TNPSC exam through malpractice. Jayakumar had given a special ink pen to the candidates. He later re-marked the answers with the help of Omkanthan who was in-charge of transporting the answer sheet bundles from Rameswaram to Chennai.
