3 held for robbery at Valsaravakkam

Chennai: The city police arrested three persons in connection with robbery at a house in Valsaravakkam.

On 28 January, Arumugam (48), a builder and resident of Radha Avenue in Valsaravakkam, lodged a complaint with the police that nearly 130 sovereigns of gold was missing from his house.

The robbery took place while the family had gone out for dinner. Assistant Commissioner Mahimaiveeran and Inspector Amudha began inquiries into the case.

They arrested Anand of Kovur. Based on his confession, two others, identified as Muruganandam of Coimbatore and Sankarapandian of Salem, were arrested.

Police recovered 63 sovereigns of gold, Rs 4 lakh cash and one car from them. The trio is said to be involved in more than 30 cases of robbery in the south.

The main accused, Jeevarathinam of Tiruvarur, is yet to be arrested.
