Chennai: Tirupur headquartered CK Motors Pvt Ltd., in joint venture with ‘PURE EV’, has unveiled electric motorcycles and bicycles in the market in Chennai.
The two wheelers are attached with a Lithium Iron Battery which are lightweight and can be charged in three hours with a load capacity 120 kgs, they said. The E-bicycles models Egnite and Etron Plus starts at Rs 41,999 and 31,000. Electric Moped model Etrance is priced at Rs 51,000 and E-Pluto, a scooter is priced Rs 79,999. Epluto 7G is priced at Rs 79,999 the company said in a press release.
The Tirupur based CK Motors has been working in collaboration with IIT-Hyderabad to develop innovative electric multi gear bicycles which are energy efficient and use Lithium Ion Batteries. The company has a plant based in Coimbatore started with an investment of Rs 50 crore and will further invest another Rs 50 crore to expand its capacity. Pure EV has a manufacturing facility in Hyderabad with a production capacity of 1,500 scooters and 500 bicycles in a 30,000 sq.ft facility.
‘CK Motors is among the very few companies in India to have patented the Lithium batteries,’ said Manager Gopinath. ‘Usually motor companies opt for batteries made in Korea, China and Japan, but the company has chosen to produce indigenous products and has manufactured the battery in its own facility. At present, the company partially sources materials for manufacturing its motorcycles from various countries, there are plans to indigenise their products. CK Motors has interest in manufacturing pollution-free vehicles and plans to launch four wheelers, it said. ‘All components of the vehicles are going to be manufactured in India,’ said business head, C Gunasekaran.
