Chennai:The city police have issued summons to actor Kamal Haasan and filmmaker S Shankar in connection with the horrifying mishap that took place on the sets of Indian 2 and claimed the lives of three persons on 19 February night. The incident also left 12 persons injured.
The summons were issued to inquire with the duo the safety measures laid out on the film sets in Nazarethpet.
It may be noted that a crane fell on crew members, killing Krishna (35), an assistant director, Chandru (58), an art assistant and Madhu (27), a production assistant. Kamal Haasan and Kajal Agarwal who were at the spot escaped the mishap by a whisker.
Subsequently, the police booked A Subaskaran of Lyca Productions, which is bankrolling the project, under Sections 287 (Negligent conduct with respect to machinery), 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others)and 304A (Causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. The crane operator was also booked by the police.
Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the families of the dead. He also visited the injured persons in the hospital.
Lyca announced a compensation of Rs 50 lakh each to the family of the dead and another Rs 50 lakh to the injured persons.
