Chennai: DMK MLA K P P Samy passed away this morning following a prolonged illness.
The 57-year-old had served as Fisheries Minister in 2006-2011 DMK government. He was elected as the MLA for the second time from the Thiruvottiyur constituency in the 2016 Assembly election. He was also the chief of the party’s fisheries wing.
DMK spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP TKS Elangovan said Samy had been undergoing treatment for the past few months and was not able to move around.
With Samy’s death, DMK has lost two MLAs in the present Assembly. K Radhamani, who represented Vikravandi constituency in Villupuram district, died in June last year.
