CAA: Hajj committee chief meets Rajini

Chennai: Tamilnadu Hajj Committee president Abu Backer today called on actor-politician Rajinikanth at his residence in Poes Garden here today and discussed about the controversial CAA that has been witnessing protests across the country.

Speaking to mediapersons after calling on Rajinikanth, Abu Backer said, ”We had a detailed discussion. He is a legend and he knows everything about Citizenship Amendment Act. There was no need for me to brief him in detail”.

Calling Rajinikanth as superstar of the entire nation, he said, ”He gave a patient listening to me and expressed his desire that all should stand united”.

Abu Backer added, ”At a time when US President Trump visited India, violence broke out in Delhi. It has put us in shame in international media. We all should stand united and contribute for the development of the nation”.

It may be recalled that, Rajinikanth recently said, ”CAA will not affect any citizen of our country. If it affects Muslims, then I will be the first person to stand up for them. How will Muslims who chose to stay back in India following partition be sent out of the country?”.

He expressed concern over violence in various parts of the country over the the Act, saying violence and rioting cannot be a way to find solution to any issue.

”Violence and rioting should not become a way to find solution for any issue. I request the people of India to stay united and vigilant keeping in mind the nation’s security and welfare”.

A couple of days ago, Rajinikanth spoke over phone to senior members of Tamilnadu Jamathul Ulama Sabai, an umbrella organisation of various Muslim outfits. They expressed their desire to call on Rajinikanth and discuss about their fears on CAA. The meeting is expected to take place in the coming week.

Meanwhile, Tamilnadu Police Intelligence wing chief Thirunavukkarasu met Rajinikanth at his residence and reviewed the security arrangements provided to him.

Security was beefed up after Periyar outfits called for protest against Rajinikanth for his remarks during Thuglaq
event recently.

Sources said Rajinikanth requested the police to scale down security being provided to him.
