Chennai: Eight more people, including four of a family tested positive on Sunday taking the number of coronavirus cases in Tamilnadu to 50.
In a tweet, Health Minister Dr C Vijayabaskar said the eight patients were identified through contact tracing and all of them were isolated for treatment.
He said, ”8 new positive cases from Erode (contact of the Thai Nationals who are undergoing treatment at IRT Perundurai).The Pts were identified thru #TNHEALTH’s contact tracing. All patients are isolated for treatment”.
A 29-year-old woman doctor, who came in contact with a COVID-19 patient before his infection was confirmed, her 10-month-old baby and two others on Sunday tested positive for coronavirus, in the first case of a medical practitioner being infected with the virus in Tamilnadu.
Meanwhile, Health Secretary Beela Rajesh told reporters that of the eight new cases, four of them were from the same family. They contracted the virus following their contacts with the Thailand Nationals, who have tested positive and were under treatment at Erode.
