Tamilnadu death toll rises to 30, record 266 fresh cases reported

Chennai: The number of positive cases crossed the 200-mark for the third successive day in Tamilnadu, with a single day high of 266 fresh cases reported on Sunday, taking the tally past the 3,000 mark, even as the death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 30.

A bullet in issued by the Health and Family Welfare department said a 44-year-old corona tested positive man died at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) at 2.15 pm taking the toll to 30, while the total number of positive cases in the State swelled to 3,023.

A total of 266 people (187 men, 79 women) tested positive on Sunday from 12 districts–the highest single day count so far–with 203 cases coming from Chennai alone, a majority of them from the single cluster of Koyambedu Wholesale vegetable market in the city.

Apart from 203 cases in Chennai, where the COVID graph reached unprecedented levels and inched towards the 1,500 mark (1,458 so far), Villuppuram recorded a single day high of 33, Cuddalore (9), Kallakurichi (6), Coimbatore (4), Ariyalur, Madurai, Tenkasi, Tiruvallur (2 each), Tiruvannamalai, Chengalpattu, Kanniyakumari (one each).
