Chennai, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu biggest challenges in Covid-19 fight

Chennai: With Tamilnadu recording 798 cases of coronavirus on Monday, the State’s total has touched 8,002. Of this Chennai alone saw 538 cases, followed by neighbouring districts of Thiruvallur and Chengalpattu with 97 and 90 cases each, respectively.

Health officials admit that Chennai and its two neighbours (Chengalpattu and Thiruvallur) are proving to be a challenge for them. “Despite our best efforts, cases continue to increase in these places, mainly due to Koyambedu market contacts. We expect the situation to ease by the end of this week,” they said.

The deadly coronavirus consumed six more lives in Tamilnadu on Monday, which also saw the sharpest spike in daily additions that pushed the cumulative tally beyond the 8,000 mark.

Monday was the fifth day in a row when Tamilnadu registered positive cases in excess of 500. There were 5,895 active cases as on date, the government said, adding a total of 2,051 people have been discharged so far following treatment, including 92 Monday.
