Chennai to hit 6,000 mark today, Royapuram crosses 1,000 cases

Chennai: The city has recorded 5,946 Covid-19 cases as on 16 May and its count, sources said, will easily cross 6,000 today.

The congested neighbourhod of Royapuram continues to have the highest number of positive patients with 1047 cases. Yesterday, it was standing at 971 cases.

According to a press release from Greater Chennai Corporation today, the area-wise break up of 15 zones shows a steady rise in the number of coronavirus cases.

The second highest containment zone is Kodambakkam with 919 positive cases. Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar comes third with 737 persons testing positive. Yesterday, it had 699 active cases. The release said that, another hotspot Teynampet has jumped to 640 cases. A day ago, the total number of cases here was 608.

There are 493 cases in Anna Nagar and Valasaravakkam has 483 patients with the infection. From 437 cases yesterday, the neighbourhood of Tondiarpet currently has 474 cases. Adyar has 316 persons undergoing treatment for Coronavirus.

Another neighbourhood Ambattur has as many as 285 persons testing positive. Thiruvottiyur has a total of 133 active Covid-19 cases. Other districts such as Madhavaram has 92 cases, Alandur has 67, Manali has 79, Perungudi has 77 and Shollinganallur has 74 patients.
