Chennai heading towards 10,000 Covid-19 cases

Chennai: At this pace, the city may record 10,000 cases of Covid-19 in a day or two.

The high rates of coronavirus cases are due to aggressive testing, officials say, in a bid to allay the fears of people.

Areas such as Royapuram, Kodambakkam and Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar have more than 1,000 cases and Alandur remains as the only place with double digit number of patients.

Until yesterday, 66 deaths were reported in the city since the lockdown in March. There are 8795 active Coronavirus patients in the city. According to data from the Greater Chennai Corporation today, the number of Covid-19 cases in Royapuram stands at 1,699, the highest in the city.

The zone with second highest number of cases is Kodambakkam with 1,232 active positive cases. In Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, there are 1,032 patients with the infection, the release said. Teynampet has 926 persons with the virus. Tondiarpet, a containment zone, has nearly 823 persons testing positive for the infection.

The zone of Anna Nagar has 719 persons with the virus and there are 605 cases of Covid-19 in Valsaravakkam. In Adyar, there are 472 patients who have contracted the virus. The data says that Ambattur has 376 cases of Coronavirus. Thiruvottiyur has a total of 228 active Covid-19 cases.

Other zones such as Madhavaram has 186 cases, Alandur has 96 coronavirus cases, Manali has 115 cases, Perungudi has 112 cases and Shollinganallur has 130 patients.
