Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today said that government is thinking about the possibility of issuing free face masks for ration card holders.
Speaking to mediapersons after holding a meeting with Corporation Officials at the Ripon Building today, Palaniswami said people need not be scared as the death rate is only 0.8 per cent.
“56 per cent of those infected by coronavirus in the State have recovered. More people are recovering in the State due to proper treatment. Only five persons are kept under ventilator. At present there are 2,741 ventilators at government hospitals. There is no shortage of ventilators,” he said.
He also said that the officials briefed him about the present scenario in Chennai.
“The virus is spreading only in places that are crowded. Except Chennai, spreading of the virus has been brought under control. The government is taking all necessary measures to contain coronavirus,” he added.
“Relaxations were made in the lockdown based on the requests and suggestions made by various expert committees,” he said.
