Summons to producer, director of controversial ‘Godman’ series

Chennai: The producer and director of the controversial Godman series have received summons for the second time from the City Crime Branch.

They have been asked to appear of 6 June at 10 am without fail. The police have said that strict action would be taken if the duo- producer R Elango and director Babu Yogeswaran did not appear for the inquiry.

The series has been under controversy since its trailer launch as many alleged that it hurt the sentiments of Hindus. Set to be aired on Zee5 from 12 June in 10 episodes, as the controversy snowballed, the OTT platform suspended the show.

Following this, Elango said it was an attack of the freedom of expression. He said that the attack was engineered and that there was script consultation with Zee5.

Many persons and associations filed cases against the series at different police stations for being Hinduphobic and actor Daniel Balaji, the lead actor, came under attack on social media.

The director and the producer are facing charges under IPC sections.
