Chennai: The DMK, which has launched Ondrinaivom Vaa campaign to reach out to the needy during the Covid-19 induced lockdown, is apparently making use of it to shed the tag that it is anti-Brahmin.
For, temple priests who are suffering without income due to the lockdown, are being ‘helped’ by DMK office-bearers under the initiative.
With critics alleging that this is one of the strategies devised by the party’s strategist Prashant Kishor, who himself is a Brahmin, DMK functionaries deny this and say they are reaching out to all sections of the society.
Dr VCR Kumaran, DMK Doctors’ Wing district secretary, says, “we have been helping many workers and needy people. When we came to know that temple priests too are sufffering due to the lockdown, we gave them relief materials. We are doing this without expecting anything in return. There is no politics in it.”
