Chennai: Amidst multiple tales of the struggle for survival in the ongoing global Covid-19 crisis, that of Madurai-based hairdresser Mohan and his daughter Nethra has touched many.
As the father-daughter spent their savings around Rs five lakh, which was meant for Nethra’s higher education, to reach out to people affected by Covid-19 lockdown, an UN arm appointed Nethra as goodwill ambassador and the Tamilnadu government came forward to bear her higher education expenses.
Now, Mankind Pharma has offered Rs one lakh aid to them for feeding the needy during the pandemic. Mohan has given 615 local families a kit each of 5 kg rice, vegetables, groceries and cooking oil to survive.
Interestingly, he has been able to do this selfless act with the money he had saved over the years for his daughter’s education.
Rajeev Juneja, CEO, Mankind Pharma says, “we salute the selfless commitment and service of Mohan from Madurai, who believe that helping others is the most satisfying act. With his salon closed and no earnings, Mohan continues to provide food kits to more than 600 families from his savings over the years. His strong dedication must be rewarded. We hope with our little support he can fulfil his daughter’s dreams of becoming a civil servant.”
