Police trace 90 out of 277 missing Covid-19 patients in Chennai, hunt for others

Chennai: When it was reported on Sunday that out of the total of 12,175 people who were tested positive for Covid-19 in the city until June 10, Greater Chennai Corporation has not been able to trace 277 of them, people living across the city were in for shock and fear.

“Even after a field survey, these patients could not be traced. It could be either  because the patients gave the incomplete or wrong address and wrong phone number,”  said Corporation Commissioner G Prakash.

Meanwhile, the police have acted swiftly and managed to trace 90 out of the 277  persons in just 24 hours. While a hunt is on to find out the remaining persons and  special teams have been formed for the purpose.

According to an official who is part of the operation, “we went to each house and verified, besides calling the phone numbers provided. We were able to trace approximately 90 cases. We are taking all efforts to find the remaining.”

Meanwhile, people coming from Mumbai and Dubai to Tamilnadu continued to contribute
to the bulk of cases reported at airports and railway stations.
