6,71,325 persons arrested for lockdown violations

Chennai: Tamilnadu police have arrested as many as 6,71,325 persons for violating norms of curfew.

Restrictions have been imposed across the State to curb the spread of Coronavirus since 24 March, while the latest curfew is imposed in Chennai, Thiruvallur, Chengalpet and Kancheepuram districts to bring down the spike of Covid-19.

A press release from the DGP’s office said that 6,20,894 violations have been recorded by the police in various districts. As many as 4,87,142 vehicles were seized. However, the vehicles are being returned to their owners in a phased manner.

A total amount of Rs 13,84,13,810 has been collected from violators as fines since the first lockdown.
