Chennai: The novel Coronavirus has been spreading rampantly not just in the congested neighbourhoods of Chennai, but also in upscale localities.
A gated community in Thiruvanmiyur has been sealed after 13 persons tested positive. The source is said to be a grocery delivery person from a nearby supermarket. The delivery staff did not know he had Covid-19 and visited the houses in the past many days.
According to latest reports, in the city, 21 people have died due to Covid-19 today of which, five deaths took place in Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital, seven in Omandurar Government Hospital and three in Government Kilpauk Hospital.
Around 601 causalities in the city have been caused by Covid-19. Nearly, 17,683 persons are undergoing treatment for the viral infection and 22,887 have recovered from it.
So far, the city has recorded over 41,000 cases of Covid-19, with Royapuram being the most badly hit locality with 6,288 infections. As many as,109 persons have died due to the pandemic, 2,337 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals and 3,842 have recovered.
Tondiarpet, a hotspot, has high numbers of Covid-19 cases with 5,116 persons contracting the virus.
Since the lockdown, 80 lives have been lost to the virus in Tondiarpet area.
Official records say that as 2,685 persons have recovered, 2,351 are still under treatment.
Teynampet has recorded 4,967 persons testing positive, while 82 persons died here, and close to 1,934 are hospitalised.
Kodambakkam, another red zone area, has 4,485 cases and the neighbourhood of Anna Nagar has 4,385 Covid-19 cases. The figures at Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar stand at 3,532. Adyar has 2,435 cases of Covid-19.
There are a total of 1,719 Covid positive persons in Valsaravakkam, 1,519 in Ambattur and 1,545 patients in Thiruvotriyur. There are 1,135 patients in Madharavam, 880 in Alandur, 854 in Perungudi and 775 in Shollinganallur. Manali has the least number of cases with 581 patients currently.
