Chennai: Despite being under a total lockdown, there are many who mindlessly venture out for non-essential errands throwing caution to the wind.
The Tamilnadu police arrested as many as 7,23,920 persons for defying norms of curfew. The restrictions have been imposed across the State to curb the spread of coronavirus since 24 March.
A press release from the DGP’s office said that 6,64,944 violations have been recorded by the police in various districts. As many as 5,35,640 vehicles were seized.
However, the vehicles are being returned to their owners in a phased manner. A total amount of Rs 15,17,94,685 has been collected from violators as fine since March.
