Chennai’s Covid-19 cases cross 50,000 mark

Chennai: Coronavirus figures in Chennai crossed 50,000 mark today. The surge in Covid-19 numbers refuses to drop, with the virus accelerating each day.

Nearly, 730 deaths have taken place since the lockdown in March. Currently, there are 20,136 patients undergoing treatment in various hospitals and 28,823 patients have recovered from the viral infection after treatment.

A press release from the Greater Chennai Corporation says that Royapuram alone accounts for 7,211 cases. A total of 2,683 patients are hospitalised and 4,405 have recovered from it. Nearly, 123 have died of Covid-19 in the locality of Royapuram.

Tondiarpet, a hotspot has high numbers of Coronavirus cases with 5,989 persons contracting the virus. As many as 98 persons have lost their lives in Tondiarpet and 2,203 are being treated for the viral infection and a total of 3,688 have recovered.

Teynampet has as many as 5,655 persons testing positive and it has the second highest death toll with 108 lives being lost of the Pandemic. As per records, 2,086 are hospitalised and 3,461 have recovered here.

Kodambakkam, another red zone area has 5,316 cases and the neighbourhood of Anna Nagar has 5,397 Covid-19 cases. The figures at Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar stand at 4,132. Adyar has 3,057 cases of Covid-19.

There are a total of 2,201 Covid positive persons in Valsaravakkam, 1,982 cases in Ambattur and 1,912 patients in Thiruvotriyur.

There are 1,524 patients in Madharavam, 1,229 in Alandur and 944 in Perungudi and 1,037 in Shollinganallur. Manali has 798 Covid-19 patients currently.
