Chennai: Since the personnel of Sathankulam police station, where a father-son duo was brutally attacked leading to their deaths, were allegedly not cooperating to the investigation process, the Madras High Court has directed by Revenue department to bring the police station under its control.
The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court has has issued the direction a day after Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has said the probe would be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Talking to reporters after inaugurating various projects in Salem, he said after getting permission from the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, which had suo motu taken cognisance of the deaths and said it would be monitoring the case, the probe would be transferred to the CBI.
Opposition DMK president M K Stalin had threatened that his party would move the court seeking a CBI probe if the Chief Minister did not ensure a fair probe and arrested the cops involved in the ‘killings’.
Palaniswami said the police department were also directed not to harass or beat the public if they violated the corona lockdown guidelines.
