Coronavirus claims 809 lives in Chennai alone

Chennai: If the current trend continues, Covid-19 death toll in the city would cross 1,000 soon. Nearly 809 deaths have taken place in Chennai so far due to the pandemic.

Currently, there are 21,094 active cases, and a total of 31,858 patients have recovered from the viral infection after treatment.

A press release from the Greater Chennai Corporation says that while the recovery rate is at 59 per cent, the active cases are at 39 pe rcent and death rate is 1.5 per cent.

The locality of Royapuram has 2,153 active cases and 5,376 have recovered from it. Nearly, 130 have died of Covid-19 here.

Tondiarpet is another hotspot has high numbers of Coronavirus cases. As many as 112 persons have lost their lives and 1,990 are hospitalised and 4,291 have recovered.

Teynampet has as many as 2,296 active cases and it has the second highest death toll with 124 lives being lost to the pandemic. Kodambakkam, another red zone, has 2,137 active cases and the neighbourhood of Anna Nagar has 2,737 patients being treated.

The figures at Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar stand at 1,561. Adyar has 1,377 cases of Covid-19.

There are a total of 1,009 Covid positive persons in Valsaravakkam, 879 cases in Ambattur and 1,053 patients in Thiruvotriyur.

There are 864 patients in Madharavam, 705 in Alandur and 517 in Perungudi and 537 in Shollinganallur. Manali has 410 Covid-19 patients currently.
