Chennai: Tamilnadu Deputy Chief Minister and AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam’s younger brother O Raja has tested positive for Covid-19. He is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Madurai.
According to sources, Raja, who was unwell, recently underwent test for coronavirus. “The test result showed positive and he was admitted to an isolation medical centre attached to a hospital in Madurai,” they added.
Meanwhile today, amid rising corona cases, the expert medical committee held a review meeting with Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and said it did not recommend extension of lockdown in Tamilnadu beyond 30 June.
Talking to reporters after the meeting held on the eve of the fifth phase lockdown, including the 12-day complete and total lockdown in Chennai and three neighbouring districts, coming to an end, National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE) Deputy Director Dr Prabhdeep Kaur said the expert committee had not recommended extension of lockdown to the Chief Miniser.
Stating that continuously extending the lockdown to prevent spread of the virus was not the solution, she said taking into account the socio-economic issues the panel did not recommend extending it beyond 30 June.
