Chennai: Southern Railway has announced cancelling special train services in Tamilnadu from today till 15 July.
Full refund to passengers who have made advanced reservations. Those who booked online will be refunded automatically. Counter tickets can be refunded anytime up to six months from the DOJ (date of journey).
The decision of Southern Railway to cancel the special trains within Tamilnadu till, citing a request from the State government on account of the rising number of Covid-19 cases, had triggered speculation over the likelihood of the lockdown being extended.
Meanwhile, senior officials said that the government would act as per recommendations of medical experts, in connection with extension of lockdown, which is set to end tomorrow.
“A smart containment strategy, with focused testing, will ideally be preferred, but without hearing what the medical experts have to say, it will be too premature to say anything,” an official reportedly said.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami is set to take an all-important decision of extending lockdown in Tamilnadu, after a meeting with the medical experts’ committee at the Secretariat in Chennai today.
On Sunday, answering to a question from the media in Salem on the possibility of the lockdown being extended beyond 30 June , he said that a decision would be taken after the meeting with medical experts at the Secretariat.
