Chennai: All these days, it was Chengalpet district which was standing second in Tamilnadu after Chennai in reporting high number of daily Covid-19 infections. However, this was not the case on Wednesday.
According to the State Health department, Madurai reported 297 cases and Chengalpet reported 226 cases.
Chennai and neighbouring districts like Chengelpet, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram have been under an intense 12-day lockdown from June 19. Then restrictions were imposed in Madurai. This lockdown has been extended till 5 July.
Chennai continues to be the worst affected district in the State with 60,533 cases in all and 2182 of which were on Wednesday. The district has seen 929 deaths so far.
The metropolis recorded 2,000-plus infections for the third consecutive day. Madurai reported 297 cases, taking its overall tally to 2,858. Chengalpattu recorded 226 fresh cases, followed by Salem with 162. Tiruvallur reported 147 cases and Ramanathapuram 100.
