10 detained in Tiruchi minor girl’s murder case

Tiruchi: Even before the shock waves generated by the brutal rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl in Pudukottai district could settle down, a 14-year-old girl’s burnt body was found near a bush at the outskirts of Somarasanpettai village in Trichi on Monday evening.

Police immediately formed special teams and picked up 10 persons for questioning till this morning. Arrests are expected to be made soon.

According to reports, the girl, a class nine student, left her home to throw trash but never returned. She had left her home around by noon and didn’t return until evening frame. When her family frantically began to search, they found the body reportedly a kilometre away from her home.

Speaking to the media, Annie Vijaya, DIG of Trichi Zone, said, “the body has been sent for post mortem to ascertain the cause of the death. We have assigned a special team to investigate the case. We hope to identify the culprits soon and punish them.”

The girl was identified as a resident of Adhavathur village. Her parents, relatives and people of the village have demanded stringent punishment to the criminals.
