Covid hit journalist commits suicide

New Delhi: A journalist who was tested positive for Covid-19 and was undergoing treatment at the AIIMS Trauma Centre died after allegedly jumping off the fourth floor of the hospital building.

The 37-year-old was working with a Hindi daily and was a resident of northeast Delhi’s Bhajanpura.

According to an official statement by AIIMS, the journalist was “having bouts of disorientation for which he was seen by a neurologist and psychiatrist and put on medication”.

On Monday afternoon, he ran out of the room where he was admitted and went to the fourth floor where he broke a window pane and jumped out, the statement added.

Devender Arya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest), said the journalist was admitted to the Covid-19 ward at the Trauma Centre on 24 June after testing positive for the virus.
