Kanpur: Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) killed notorious gangster Vikas Dubey in an encounter in Kanpur today after he tried to flee. Vikas Dubey attempted to escape after the UP STF vehicle transporting him to Kanpur from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh overturned in heavy rain.
The UP STF personnel chased Vikas Dubey after the accident as he snatched the service revolver of one of them. A gunfight ensued at the spot in which gangster was killed on the spot. Dubey was taken to the hospital where he was declared brought dead by doctors.
“Gangster Vikas Dubey killed in an encounter when he tried to flee after a road accident,” said IG, Kanpur Mohit Agarwal.
Four police personnel, including two Inspectors, were injured in the encounter. They were immediately rushed to the hospital and given medical treatment. All four police personnel are said to be out of danger.
Meanwhile, Opposition leaders suspected a foul play in the encounter of dreaded gangster Vikas Dubey and demanded a probe into the circumstances which led to his killing by the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force (STF) officials in Kanpur.
The opposition leaders alleged that the Uttar Pradesh government is hiding a deep secret with regard to the killing of Kanpur encounter main accused Vikas Dubey on Friday.
Samajwadi Party president and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav took a dig and stated that the encounter had saved the government from being overturned.
“Basically the car did not overturn, but the government has been saved from being overturned. The car overturned and Vikas Dubey tried to run. If he had to run, then why would he surrender. The secret is very deep,” Mulayam Yadav said in a tweet.
Reacting to the development, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra asked ‘Whatabout those who aided the criminal’.
“The criminal is dead, but what about those who aided the criminal?” Priyanka tweeted.
On the run since he organised the massacre of policemen at his village in Kanpur last Friday, Vikas Dubey was arrested dramatically yesterday at the famous Mahakal temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.
He was spotted by temple security guards when he bought prasad and entered the temple. When he was confronted by the guards, he lashed out and was taken to the police. “I am Vikas Dubey, the Kanpur guy”, he burst out, held by several Madhya Pradesh policemen.
