Bengaluru shuts today, rigorous lockdown for 7 days


Chennai: Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka, goes into lockdown from 8 pm tonight till 5 am on 22 July. During this lockdown, only essential services will be allowed to operate.

These include stores selling essential items, which will remain open between 5 am and 12 pm everyday. According to the guidelines issued by the Karnataka government, air and rail services will operate as per schedule. Movement of vehicles, both public and private, will be allowed only in emergencies.

Hotels, restaurants, and hospitality services, except those meant for housing health/ police/ Government officials/ healthcare workers/stranded persons including tourists and for quarantine facilities will be shut. Hotels and restaurants shall be permitted to operate only takeaways and home deliveries.

“All essential services including supply of milk, vegetables, fruits, medicines and groceries will continue uninterrupted”, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said in a tweet.

“I appeal to people to cooperate with the government, follow all guidelines, take all precautionary steps and help us contain the pandemic,” he said and added that the decision was taken with suggestions from experts to curb the growing number of cases.

Yediyurappa complemented the efforts of ASHA workers, doctors, medical staff, police, officials and the media who are working to control the spread of virus.
