TN CM tests negative for Covid-19

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, who underwent Covid-19 test for the second time, has tested negative, sources said.

“He was tested for coronavirus and the result has showed negative,” sources added. Palaniswami will chair a meeting of the State Cabinet at the Secretariat in Chennai this evening. Some crucial decisions are expected to be taken at the meet.

“Issues such as Covid-19 situation in Tamilnadu, the measures being taken by the government to combat it, steps to woo investments and easing of lockdown measures among others things will be discussed by the Cabinet,” sources said.

Amid rising Covid-19 cases, Tamilnadu government on Monday decided to extend the suspension of bus services till 31 July. The State government had earlier suspended the bus services till 15 July.

Tamilnadu reported 4,328 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. While the number of cases is rising in other districts, Chennai has witnessed a drop in the number of new cases in the recent past. According to the State health separtment, Chennai reported 1,140 new cases.
