Is the worst over? Chennai’s active cases stand at just 18%

Chennai: The percentage of active cases of Covid-19 is falling on a daily basis hinting that the worst could be over for the city.

According to data from Greater Chennai Corporation, currently the active cases stand at 15,038 (18 per cent) and the recovered cases stand at 65,748 (80 per cent).

At a time when each district has thousands of cases, now only one neighbourhood has more than 2,000 cases. The death toll is 1,341, that is 1.63 per cent.

Kodambakkam, which is the highest for Coronavirus numbers, currently has 2,077 cases. The neighbourhood of Anna Nagar, another containment zone has 1,553 patients testing positive. Teynampet has close to 1,432 cases and Royapuram, which had the highest positive patients now has 1,141 cases.

Another hotspot, Tondirapet has 1,039 active cases. Royapuram, which earlier had 70 per cent of its population affected, is showing an impressive recovery rate with 8,641 persons overcoming the viral infection.

District wise, Anna Nagar has high death toll with 203 persons succumbing to the viral disease. Royapuram recorded 173 deaths and Tondiarpet has 183 casualties.
