Chennai: The lockdown has been extended for a month to contain the viral spread of Covid-19 which does not seem to be declining.
There are 12,785 cases of Covid-19 in the city. This is nearly 13 per cent of the overall infections and the pandemic has claimed 2,092 lives so far.
On the brighter side, the recovery rate continues to be 85 per cent and as part of rapid testing as many as 12,880 persons were tested today.
A total of 98,767 Covid-19 cases have been recorded by the Greater Chennai Corporation since March.
Out of this, close to 83,890 persons have recovered after treatment, Royapuram which was one of the most dangerous areas for the viral infection is now showing 90 per cent recovery.
Nearly, 10,090 have been treated and sent home. This is followed by Anna Nagar where 9,709 persons have overcome the disease.
The pandemic has affected more men than women. As per data, 51 per cent of the patients have been male and 40.81 per cent are female. The viral infection has contracted mostly persons in the age group of 30-39 by 18.31 per cent.
The Chennai Corporation today gave an area-wise break up of the places which have Covid-19. A hot spot, Kodambakkam has 1,613 active cases and Anna Nagar, another containment zone has 1,362 patients testing positive. Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar has 1,094 cases of Covid-19, Adyar has 1,167 active cases and the neighbourhood of Ambattur has 1,266 patients hospitalised.
The neighbourhood of Manali has the least number of infected patients, that is 141 cases. Teynampet has the highest death toll in the city at 321, followed by Royapuram with 256 deaths.
