Chennai: A sum of Rs 20 crore has collectively been collected from lockdown violators from several districts in Tamilnadu.
Since 24 March, in order to curb the spread of Covid-19 and to enforce social distancing, the State police arrested 9,53,914 persons who ventured out during curfew.
Nearly 8,65,022 violations have been recorded by the police in various districts and FIRs have been registered against them, a press release from DGP’s office said today.
As many as 6,73,806 vehicles were seized from these persons. However, the vehicles are being returned to their owners in a phased manner.
A total amount of Rs 20,06,25,243 has been collected from violators as fines so far.
