Tamilnadu’s Covid count crosses 3 lakh

Chennai: Tamilnadu’s Covid-19 infections crossed three lakh today, sources said, adding that an official announcement in this regard will be made this evening.

“The tally has crossed three lakh this afternoon. The official bulletin to be released by the State Health department will carry details of the exact figures,” sources added.

The State on Sunday reported 5,994 fresh Covid cases, taking the tally to 2,96,901 while 119 fatalities pushed the death toll to 4,927. Of the dead, as many as 103 had co-morbidities and 16 none.

Tamilnadu on Sunday witnessed the highest daily number of novel coronavirus deaths with 119 casualties, taking the toll to 4,927, according to State health department.

However, on a positive note, the total number of recoveries stands at 2,38,638, including Sunday’s 6,020 patients getting discharged from after recovering from the highly contagious disease. There are 53,336 active cases in the State.

With increased focus on testing of samples, 70,186 specimens were tested on Sunday, taking the overall testing in the state over 32 lakh.

Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced further relaxations on Saturday and said public worship would be allowed in small temples in corporation areas — that have an annual income of less than Rs 10,000 from Monday.
