Chennai: Tamilnadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit today said India of today is on a proud forward march in the comity of nations.
In his address at the Raj Bhavan after unfurling the National Flag and taking the salute from ceremonial guard of honour on the occasion of 74th Independence Day here, he said the nation is self-reliant and was respected all over the world for its political leadership, economic growth, deep cultural roots and social cohesion.
He called upon all citizens to pay tributes to all those brave souls who suffered and sacrificed for the noble cause of country’s freedom from the British rule and express their gratitude to all those who enabled our country to move forward on the path of progress.
He also appealed to the people to follow the advice of President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in their Independence Day address.
He also advised the people of the State to take all possible precautions and stay safe, while wishing them best of health and bright future.
Purohit tested negative for Covid-19 on Friday and recovered from the infection.
