Chennai: Months into the lockdown, the State police continue in arresting those who are stepping out during the curfew. Nearly, 9,76,018 persons were arrested by the Tamilnadu police for venturing out despite a lockdown.
Since 24 March, in order to curb the spread of Covid-19 and to enforce social distancing, the State police have been arresting those who ventured out during curfew.
Nearly 8,83,402 violations have been recorded by the police in various districts and FIRs have been registered against them, a press release from DGP’s office said today.
As many as 6,86,402 vehicles were seized from these persons. However, the vehicles are being returned to their owners in a phased manner. A total amount of Rs 20,79,99,823 has been collected from violators as fine.
