Chennai: Treasury Commissioner C Samayamoorthy today clarified that orders were not issued to freeze pension accounts but to take a survey of the accounts that do not have transactions for the past six months.
He further said that notice will be sent to the pensioners for the reason behind not using the accounts.
A circular asking the banks to share details of inactive pension accounts was issued by the treasury on 17 August. This move came as a shock to several pensioners, who were unable to access their accounts due to Covid-19 pandemic.
