Chennai: Close to five months of lockdown, the Tamilnadu police have arrested 9,83,936 persons who defied the lockdown. The violators were fined and cases were filed against them.
Since 24 March, in order to curb the spread of Covid-19 and to enforce social distancing, the State police have been arresting those who ventured out during curfew.
Close to 8,89,649 violations have been recorded by the police in various districts and FIR’s have been registered against them, a press release from DGP’s office said.
As many as 6,88,234 vehicles were seized from these persons. However, the vehicles are being returned to its owners in a phased manner. A total amount of Rs 21,19,57,003 has been collected from violators as fines.
