Close to 10 lakh arrested for curfew violation

Chennai: The State police have booked nearly 9,92,583 persons for violating norms of lockdown.

Since 24 March, in order to curb the spread of Covid-19 and to enforce social distancing, the Tamilnadu police have been arresting those who ventured out during curfew.

Close to 8,97,182 violations have been recorded by the police in various districts and FIRs have been registered against them, a press release from DGP’s office said today.

As many as 6,93,443 vehicles were seized from these persons. However, the vehicles are being returned to their owners in a phased manner.

A total amount of Rs 21,57,26,633 has been collected from violators as fines, the release added.
